Consultation Survey On Features Of Practice Statements Is Closed

The Australian Professional Teachers Association (APTA) thanks educators who have provided advice on the Features of Practices Statements for the Proficient Descriptors 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 and 7.4. The online survey is no longer available. The results of the survey are being analysed and the feedback will assist APTA in reviewing the statements.

Promoting Professional Learning Project

The Australian Professional Teachers’ Association (APTA) and its member Councils invite you to an information session in your state or territory about the Promoting Professional Learning Project. This project is funded by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

The project aims to develop elaborations and exemplars for the National Professional Teaching Standards for Teachers for the 5 focus statements in the Professional Engagement for the Proficient career stage.

National Values Education Framework Project

The Australian Professional Teachers Association and the Department of Education, Science and Training Values Education partnership project

The Australian Professional Teachers Association is working with the Department of Education, Science and Training to support the incorporation of the National Values Framework into educational practice.

This will be achieved at the state and territory levels by the joint councils through their professional teaching association members. The associations will encourage involvement and insist in raising awareness of the Values Education Program and what the Australian Government is doing in values Education.

The Values Education initiative in Australia mirrors international concerns. An excellent source of background material can be found on this UNESCO portal.

GlobalEd is sponsored by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). It is an education resource for students and teachers. The site contains information about various Global Issues such as Health, and the Environment, as well as profiles of Countries assisted by Australian funding. There is student information and teaching resources.

The Department of Education and Training of Western Resource bank provides evaluations of a wide range of resources available for use in incorporating Values into classroom practice

Curriculum Linkage

The links between the values education elements as expressed in current state and territory curricula have been established.

• In Western Australia, Ms Kerry Boyd of the Curriculum Council has prepared a document entitled "WA-Curriculum-Council-Values" in which the values embedded in the West Australian Curriculum Framework have been linked to the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools.

• In Victoria the Council of Professional Teacher Associations of Victoria (CPTAV) have developed a Tabled Comparison of: Values For Australian Schooling Framework and Victorian Curriculum Initiatives: Blueprint Strategy 1-Student Learning; Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS); Principles of Learning and Teaching (POLT)

• In Tasmania, the NEAT have sourced a comprehensive document demonstrating linkages between the national and state curricula.

International professional development for school leaders and leading teachers

The APTA in partnership with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (formerly Teaching Australia) conducts international professional development for school leaders and leading teachers. The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership subsidises the participation of  teachers in this professional development. The Australian Professional Teachers' Association supports the participation of other teachers to attend the professional development activity.
